I'm happy with them both but actually do think the dog is the winner. For the horse, I tried out a grey toned paper, and it worked well, but I like the underlying warmth of the tan color better.

These are very expensive pastels, so right now, no, I won't be buying them. I plan to see if I can get similar results from the pastels I already own.
