I was Horse-Drawing Girl

I think every high school class in America (and probably elsewhere) has That Girl Who Draws Horses All the Time. In my class, it was me. I was not, at the time, anywhere near as good at it as I am now, but that's what all the practice was for.



Lukas the Dressage Horse, 11 x 8", carbon pencil and pastel on Rives BFK Tan paper.

Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE Rives BFK Tan? <3 <3 <3  It's thick and toothy and soft, you can erase the heck out of it without ruining it, and for this drawing I used a brush and water over my carbon pencil drawing to smooth the texture and add depth, and the Rives paper lets me do that because it dries flat instead of buckling. LOVE.

The carbon pencil is Wolff's and is another of my very very favorite materials.

Oh, thank you. I keep getting more and more nervous that I'm like The Lone Spammer. Wish more people would post stuff. Amateur stuff, fun stuff, fanart, heck, I don't care. I'd just love to have more company.

I'm not producing anything at the moment, due to neuro issues, so any call for more content coming from me would be hypocritical. However, I can say I've enjoyed pretty much everything posted by everyone so far - the last one before you was a very nice drawing of a flower and there have been some joyous pics in the past.

Oh man I totally drew horses all the time. I think I used to be better at it, from sheer force of repetition.

Yeah, it's possible to get all rusty from lack of practice. Thing is, if you go back to drawing you do pick it up again a little faster.

Thanks. I am really happy with this one. It's always a little tricky drawing a black animal and not having it get way too flat or else not look black. I think I managed to walk that line here.

The horse has a sense of personality. There's a kind look in its eyes. Pastels always make things feel nice and soft too.

I liked this horse a lot! He's just as friendly and bright as he looks, and he has a bit of a sly, yet goofy, sense of playfulness about him. Also he's gorgeous. :-)
