Digital Sketch: Audioland

Pencil & Digital

1. I am trying to replicate my gouache paintings with a digital medium. Now, I'm having problems because I paint with cyan, magenta, and yellow (plus b+w), and all colors on a monitor are RGB-based. When I try to mix my colors on the digital palette, they are a little off. The only solution I have is pulling up the Pantone swatches every time I want to change a color. This is getting old real fast. Is there a better way?

2. I want to sell the above image as a print. Is anyone interested?

What program are you using? "Mixing" colors in digital programs definitely won't work the same way it will traditionally. I suggest using several layers and toying with brush settings. Uhm, this advice isn't exactly helpful... Yeah. Program? More detail about your method?

Ah, okay. I suggest using different layers for different parts of the picture. Laying down flat colors on one, then the shading and highlights on separate layers so that you can tinker with the effects and filters.

If you're using Photoshop, you can try using the hard round brush and turning the opacity way down on it, then use the eyedropper to pick up middle tones and continuously blend.

...I hope that makes sense/is any help. :\ Layering is really the key to digital painting a lot of the time.

Also, I like the picture--I totally forgot to comment. URRR. I like that you use such bold colors.
