Today is sunny and chilly.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a large flock of sparrows and house finches, a male cardinal, and a fox squirrel.

EDIT 5/2/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 5/2/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

I am done for the night.

This year during Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, I'm writing about reading as a way of becoming an expert in a given subject. Read Part 1: Introduction to Becoming an Expert, Part 2: Architecture, Part 3: Dance, Part 4: Music, Part 5: Painting, Part 6: Poetry, Part 7: Sculpture.

Three Weeks for Dreamwidth Part 8: Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution is a skillset for peacefully sorting out disagreements between people. Individual aspects include body language, communication skills, cooperative decision-making, coping skills, emotional awareness, mediation, negotiation, and problem-solving. The goal is to find a win-win solution, or if that is not possible, at least something that everyone can live with. Sometimes you may identify a need for additional resources, reorganzing things, or other stuff that could take a while to accomplish. Conflict resolution is effective when it diffuses the tension of the moment and identifies at least one practical step toward reducing or avoiding future conflicts over the same issue. It's okay if that takes multiple rounds to fix fully. All people experience conflicts sometimes, but different cultures handle this in different ways. Dreamwidth has no conflict resolution communities per se, but you might explore [community profile] common_nature, [community profile] goals_on_dw, or [community profile] thankfulthursday for a few of its subskills.

Here is my card for the Greek Myth Fest Bingo over in [community profile] allbingo. The fest runs from May 1-31.  (See all my 2026 bingo cards.)

If you'd like to sponsor a particular square, especially if you have an idea for what character, series, or situation it would fit -- talk to me and we'll work something out. I've had a few requests for this and the results have been awesome so far. This is a good opportunity for those of you with favorites that don't always mesh well with the themes of my monthly projects. I may still post some of the fills for free, because I'm using this to attract new readers; but if it brings in money, that means I can do more of it. That's part of why I'm crossing some of the bingo prompts with other projects, such as the Poetry Fishbowl.

Underlined prompts have been filled.

Minato has posted a remaster of "Magnet" on the song's 17th birthday! I'm incredibly normal about this!

There's so much I want to rave on about… first of all, the art is GORGEOUS. I'm in love with this semi-realistic style with the shiny everything. Second, the way they lean towards each other… it makes me feel so giddy. I can feel the yearning and the lesbian desire! Their lips are so close… AUHG! Third, the white dresses that are wedding-styled!!! My heart!!! Aaaaaa gosh, this is making me so happy. Thank you Minato 🥹.

Today is cloudy and cool.

I fed the birds. I've heard a squirrel barking but haven't seen it.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 5/1/26 -- I did a bit of work around patio.

I took some pictures around the yard. Columbine, alliums, poppy, wood hyacinth, and others are blooming.

EDIT 5/1/26 -- I did some brush trimming around the patio.

I've seen a male cardinal and a fox squirrel at the hopper feeder.

I am done for the night.

EDIT 5/1/26 -- We went to a May Day event, and when we got home, my Cold Stream Farm order had arrived.

It's finally May! thedrabblecollective on Tumblr is hosting their semi-annual month-long drabble challenge. I'm here to cross-post.

Regarding 3W4DW, I'll be getting caught up 😅. There's a good chance I won't finish in time for the 3 weeks, but I'm not stressing about it. I'll get it done when I want to <3.

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog
Characters: Surge the Tenrec, (hallucination) Dr. Starline
Quick Notes: Surge definitely has PTSD, canon-typical Dr. Starline hallucinations, lowkey whump.

Reassessing my 2026 New Year's Goals

In honor of my newfound sense of mortality I think now might be a good time to reassess my 2026 New Year's goal list. I made it when I was depressed and although I did plan to use it to inspire me to finish some percent of items on the list it was mostly an invitation for me to dream of "one day".

I'm over that bump though and I would like to celebrate today instead. So, I think evaluating and altering these to fit what I am actually physically capable of doing would be nice. Some goals I will leave alone, others I will reduce the goal number on significantly, some I will be replacing and others I will simply remove with no notes.  It will be long and ramble-y so I'll put it behind a cut

Here we go... )------------------------

After reassessing my goals here is the updated list.  It's a much more realistic set of goals that I actually might finish this year.

Explore Ouzel Picnic area with John

Finish 5 paintings (4 remaining)

Complete 20 hours of biking (19 remaining)

Read 15 books

Go Kayaking 3 times

Grow Marigolds, Sunflowers, and Kale

Make 12 desserts/sweets (4 remaining)

Get my nose pierced

Complete 1 rug

Make 1 granny square dress using thrifted yarn

Make 1 plein air painting

Complete 5 sewing projects

In addition to these I have been thinking about visiting my 43Things goal list via the wayback machine to see what I have completed in the 20 years since it was closed.  I have been missing 43Things since it closed in 2015.  I was a very active member of the community and still miss the friends I knew there as well as the format.  I have looked many many times but no website ever opened that had the same energy or concept.  With that in mind, I may choose to attempt to create a 43Things community here.  I know it might not be the same but I would like to honor the spirit of the space because it made me feel so hopeful and invested in living.

27 April: How did you discover poly ships? What makes you write/read/draw them?

Honestly? No idea. Maybe it was Design for Living's fault?

Considering the types of ships I, erhm, ship, it's probably the impulse of "Why must X choose? X has two hands!".

29 April: Self rec time! what poly fanwork of yours are you most proud of? share it here! Not a creator? Then who's your favorite fandom creator? Time to share!!!

I guess Triangle? (Didier/Juliette/The Marquis)

01 May: Rec post for fics
This is a post to recommend poly fics exclusively. You may comment or edit your comment as many times as you want, but please, only recommend fics on this post. All ratings, warnings, and ships welcome.

Sculpture is a tactile art of shaping three-dimensional figures. Popular media include bone, bronze, clay, marble, and polymer clay. Soft sculpture is a fibercraft using materials like wool or cotton. Sculpture may also be mixed media using typical materials or found objects. All known human cultures make art, leading to great variety in sculpture. New Year's Resolutions Check In

We made it to the end of April! \o/ If you have completed any of your short-term goals or subgoals, and/or you're still chugging away at your ongoing goals, then pat yourself on the back. You worked hard for that. We've also gotten through the second month of spring. If you're doing seasonal goals, you may have finished the first of your spring ones and/or be looking ahead to the summer batch.

I'm continuing to track goals at the end of each month. So far it seems to be helping, so that's encouraging. I'm looking at my goal list more often and trying to keep ticking off more of them.

These are the previous check in posts:

Moving forward

I'm feeling slightly better.  It helped to write all that out.

I'm going to take a break from working on cleaning up.  I don't really care right now.  Maybe, if John cares he can help me.  I'm too tired.

Instead I'm going to take time to do what I want... which isn't much: take a bath using my fancy Salus bath bombs, slather myself in too much rose oil, do some plein air painting, walk my dog, watch goslings, maybe finally finish Trials of Mana.... you know, all that stuff that matters more than if your place looks good.

The community garden got back to me.  We were offered a plot across town.  We're going to take it.  I don't know what I'll grow.  I love squash plants so maybe squash.  I love lemongrass so maybe that.  I use carrots, onion and celery in most things so that might be good too.

Maybe just sunflowers... how I adore sunflowers.

I think I'm going to cry again.
